Why Wax?

Disadvantages of Shaving

  • Cuts the hair, causing it to grow back thicker and more coarse
  • Hair growth appears darker and thicker due to the blunt cut of the hair. Hair growth does not decrease over time
  • Irritates the skin, causing razor burns, bumps, and ingrown hairs, which is actually an infection of the hair follicle. This infection can get worse and spread.
  • Results don’t last long - you have to shave often, sometimes daily, depending on your lifestyle, the season, and how coarse your hair is.
  • It’s easy to cut yourself, even if you are careful.
  • Razors can become easily contaminated with bacteria and viruses, such as staphylococcus, which can cause serious infections which require medical attention.
  • Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or Accutane are advised not to wax, as these medications tend to weaken the skin and tearing (lifting) may occur when wax is removed.
  • If you bleed, bruise, or have skin that lifts easily, waxing may not be the ideal form of hair removal for you. Some physicians do not recommend waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation, as they are more susceptible to infections. Check with your doctor first if you have a health condition.

Benefits of Waxing

  • Removes hair from the root - hair grows back thinner, finer and softer - no sharp, unsightly stubble, razor bumps or burns
  • Exfoliates skin leaving it smooth, helping to reduce ingrown hairs
  • Hair growth decreases over time
  • Long lasting results - wax only once a month
  • Great before a trip or vacation: no need to pack a razor or worry about having to shave.
  • Services take only 15-30 minutes depending on the area.

Brazilian Waxes

  • Brazilian waxes are hygienic. Pubic hair retains germs that can cause bad odors.
  • It gives you freedom. No need to worry about how small or how low your swimsuit can be.
  • You just feel cleaner and more confident after having a Brazilian wax.
  • It’s inexpensive when you consider how long it lasts and the time and cost of shaving.
  • The discomfort is not as bad as you may think. Certainly, the first time may be a shocker, but becomes more tolerable the more frequently you wax.

Before Your Appointment

  • Proper Hair Growth - To achieve best results, please allow 3-4 weeks of hair growth before your appointment. Ideally, 1/4 inch (size of a grain of rice) of hair in the area you want waxed is recommended
  • Pain Reliever - To help reduce inflammation and reduce pain, take ibuprofen at least 30 minutes before your appointment.
  • Caffeine, Alcohol, Marijuana - Please refrain from caffeine, alcohol and marijuana before your appointment. Alcohol actually makes waxing more painful because the stimulants will make your skin more sensitive. The same goes for smoking or caffeine.
  • Shower - If possible, take a shower just prior to your appointment. Hot water opens pores and allows hair to come out easy, making it less painful for you.
  • Pregnancy - Waxing while pregnant is absolutely harmless. You'll feel a lot more sensitive during this time due to the blood vessels being a bit more dilated than usual. Rest assured it's perfectly safe to wax.
  • Menstrual Cycles - Your period does not prevent you from getting waxed! Please ensure you have a tampon in for your waxing appointment. You'll also want to make sure you change your tampon right before your visit to minimize the risk or worry of leaks. Note: you will be more sensitive a week before and the week of your period.
  • Exfoliating - One day before your appointment, exfoliate in the shower to remove dead skin and lift trapped hair.
  • Moisturizing - After you exfoliate it is very important to apply a moisturizer. This will keep your skin hydrated and nourished until the day of your appointment.
  • Hydrating - Water keeps your body hydrated and refreshed and helps maintain your skin's elasticity.
  • Special Occasion - If you are waxing for a special occasion, such as a wedding or honeymoon, I recommend staring to wax at least three months in advance.  Not only will this ensure your skin reacts properly, but it will also give your hair to get on the same growth cycle so you have the best results for your special occasion. Be mindful that your skin may react differently to waxing over shaving. Your skin may experience redness, bruising, or irritation.
  • Clothing - You will want to wear loose and comfortable clothing to avoid skin irritation.

What to Expect During Your Wax

Relax, breathe, and know that you are in good hands. I will talk to you during the entire process and answer any questions you may have.

After Your Appointment

  • 24 hours after your wax - NO sunbathing, hot baths, saunas/steam rooms, exercise, swimming pools, sexual activity or tight clothes that may rub.  Your pores are open and more susceptible to bacteria. Avoid highly fragranced body lotions for 24-48 hours post service.
  • Exfoliating  - I recommend you start exfoliating two days after your visit and then approximately every other day. Exfoliating will reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs after the appointment. Never exfoliate the day of your appointment, always the day before. This will cause more irritation.  Exfoliating is crucial for maintaining healthy and glowing skin, and ensuring future waxes work effectively. However, remember not to exfoliate directly after your wax appointment. Plan on giving your skin 24-48 hours to recuperate. Exfoliation removes the top layer of dead skin which can trap in bacteria and cause ingrown hairs, irritation, rashes, or other infections. Please ask about my recommended products to help reduce ingrown hairs.
  • Moisturizing - I recommend moisturizing every day after you shower on clean, dry skin. Please ask about my recommended products to help hydrate and moisturize your skin.
  • Consistency - Consistency is key when waxing. This will help your hair grow in slower, softer, and finer with less skin irritation and ingrown hairs. The more consistent you are, the less discomfort you will experience! You will also remove the hair that was growing underneath the skin at your previous visits. Waxing an area frequently over time can also damage the hair follicle, causing it to stop growing hair.
  • Shaving - Do not shave in between waxing appointments! It is crucial to have all your hair on the same growth cycle for a consistent and clean wax.
